My Dear and honoured Sir.

I wonder to have received no Line from you
for so long Time; and especially since we had so early Intell=
=igence of the safe Arrival of Mr. Wyllys, to whose Care
I Committed a Number of Letters to Friends in several
Parts of England, and covered and Directed them unsealed
to your Care.
I have been riding in this Journey with Mr. Whita=
=ker
, and Mr. Occom to Solicit Charities for the Support of
two missionaries, and nine schoolmasters, from my School,
lately appointed and Authorized by the Board of Correspon‐
dents
here; and also of Mr. Kirtland, of whom you have
heard, among the Senecas;
The hearts of People are open in many Places —
and the design in General wears a very agreeable aspect —
I Expect these missionaries, and schoolmasters
will set out on their Tour as soon as I get Home —
You may. D. V. Expect Mr. Occom with you, accom‐
panied by Mr. Whitaker or Mr. Charles Jeffery Smith, or
some other ministers appointed by this Board, between this
and Winter, or as soon as we can make them ready, in
Order to make this design and the Importance of it
known to the People of God who have ability to promote
and help forward the same.
To Mr. DeBerdt
June 12. 1765.
Every Step we have yet taken in the Affair has prospered,
as though some kind Angel had the Conduct and Guidance
of the whole.
I want much to hear what prospect Gen. Lyman
has in his Affair, and whether there be any Hope at all
of success in any Suit. my Hope is only in God. I haven't
Time to add, Save that I am with much esteem
Dear, Sir,
 Yours most heartily in our
 Common Lord,

Eleazar Wheelock
P.S. Our dear Mr. Smith’s
going to England at this Juncture
affords a most agreeable prospect
it looks as though God Was preparing the
Way for much Good to Come to the poor Creatures
and though his integrity, and
steadfastness in the Cause of Truth will not
permit that preferment among his people which
his merit requires yet I trust It will not
lessen the esteem or Influence of his Superior
Abilities among Such as have a right [illegible][guess (h-dawnd): taste]
