My Dear & Hon.d Sir.

I wonder to have Rec.d non Line from you
for ſo long Time; and Eſpecially ſince we had ſo early Intell=
=igence of the ſafe Arrival of M.r Wyllys, to whoſe Care
I Committed a Number of Letters to Friends in ſeveral
Parts of England, and Cover’d and Directed them unſeald
to your Care.
I have been riding in this Journey with ye Rev.d M.r Whita=
=ker
, and M.r Occom to Solicit Charities for the Support of
two Miſsionaries, and nine School-Maſters, from my School,
lately appointed an Authorized by the Board of Correſpon=
=dants
here; and alſo of M.r Kirtland, of whom you have
heard, among the Senecas;
The Harts of People are open in many Places —
and the Deſign in General wears a very agreeable Aſpect —
I Expect theſe Miſsionaries, and School-Maſters
will ſet out on their Tour as ſoon as I get Home —
You may. D. V. Expect M.r Occom with you, Accom=
panie’d by M.r Whitaker or M.r Charles Jeffery Smith, or
ſome other Miniſters appointed by this Board, between this
and Winter, or as ſoon as we can make them ready, in
Order to make this Deſign and the Importance of it
known to the People of God who have ability to promote
and help forward the ſame.

Every Step we have yet taken in the Affair has proſperd,
as though ſome kind Angel had the Conduct and Guidance
of the whole.
I want much to hear what Proſpect Gen.l Lyman
has in his Affair, and wheather there be any Hope at all
of Succeſs in any Suit. my Hope is only in God. I [illegible]hant
Time to add, Save that I am with much Esſteem
Dear, Sir,
 Yours most heartily in our
 Common Lord,

Eleazar Wheelock
P.S. Our dear M.r Smith’s
going to England at this Juncture
appears to me with a moſt favourable is affords a moſt agreeable Proſpect
Aſpect it looks as though God Was preparing the
Way for much Good towards that great to Come to the poor Creatures
deſign — and though his Intigrity, and
Steadfaſtneſs in the Cause of Truth will not
permitt that preferment among his people which
his merit requires yet I truſt It will not
leſsen the Eſteem or Influence of his Superior
among Abilities among Such as have a good right [illegible][guess (h-dawnd): Tast]
