Dear Sir:-
When Mr. J. R. Crawford went north he chartered theSchooner "Silver Wave" from J. R. Hammer, leaving the charterin the bank in Escrow. As he did not have sufficient fundsto leave with the charter, the Lomen Brothers, friends of Mr.Stefansson, put up their guarantee for two thousand dollars toinsure Mr. Hammar of his money when he returned.
The "Silver Wave" returned with a bill for 14 daysat $175.00 per day, for the charter. Hammar also brought withhim an order from Crawford for us to pay $160.00 to Hammar fora dory he purchased from the boat. They not having a boat there.There being no funds here to pay the charter, the Lomen Bros.sent several telegrams to straighten the matter out and aftera telegram was received from Stefansson we sent you the following telegram:
"Silver Wave has returned leaving Crawford and party onWrangell Island. Please telegraph us, through SeattleNational Bank, $2017.35 to cover charter Silver Wave andother expenses authorized by Crawford. The above request for funds being instructions from Stefansson perhis telegram to Lomen of September 21st."
The above amount was arrived at as follows:
