My dear Stefansson,
I received a wire from Nome this morning dated September 14th, addressed to me personally reading as follows: -
"WE HAVE GUARANTEED TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS CHARTER MONEY TO SILVER WAVE SOON DUE TO RETURN PLEASE WIRE THE ABOVE AMOUNT AT ONCE THROUGH THE SEATTLE NATIONAL BANK TO THE MINERS AND MERCHANTS BANK NOME CRAWFORD INFORMED US THAT HE NOTIFIED YOU RE THE ABOVE PREVIOUS TO HIS DEPARTURE.
LOMEN BROS."
to which I have replied to-day as follows: -
"ACKNOWLEDGING WIRE FOURTEENTH REGRET CAN DO NOTHING REGARDING THIS MATTER UNTIL WE RECEIVE LETTER OF INSTRUCTION FROM CRAWFORD WHICH WAS DOUBTLESS MAILED PRIOR HIS DEPARTURE SUGGEST YOU WRITE US FULLY AT ONCE TO SAVE FURTHER DELAY."
I presume in due course we will receive a letter of explanation from Crawford, and apparently he has undertaken that we should pay Lomen Bros. $2,000., but even though we had the money, which we have not, I would not be disposed to wire it to Nome until we receive Crawford's letter, and the whole business has been passed on by you. It looks to me though as if we would have to provide $2,000. before many weeks are passed. I shall take no further action in this matter without advising you.
Yours sincerely, ^ AJ Taylor ^
