Allen Crawford, Esq.,
N o m e , ALASKA.
My dear Crawford,
I am very sorry that you have had any hitch
in the arrangements for the boat after reaching Nome.
I have done my best to help out the situation from this
end, and was very much relieved to get your wire of the
4th, saying you only required $100.00, which has been
promptly forwarded to you this morning. This money
would have gone forward yesterday except that it was
Labour Day, and the Banks and offices were all closed.
If is not quite clear either to Mr. Anderson
or myself as to what terms you are able to arrange for
the charter or purchase of the "Silver Wave". We
gather from your wire that a note is to be given, but
we do not understand for what amount. No doubt your
confirming letter will make this clear.
Mr. Stefansson has told me of the suggestion
contained in your letter to him of August 18tb, in regard to securing an option on ten shares of the Company’s stock by the payment of $100.; and, while an
arrangement of this sort is a little unusual, I understand that Mr. Stefansson is willing to grant you this
privilege, but I have advised him that I consider it
desirable that some time limit be placed, within which
you have to complete payment for the stock. In my
opinion this period should not be longer than one year;
otherwise your option would come under the category of
sure things. If operations were very successful, then
you would be able to pay for your shares out of the
profits of the enterprise, and if operations were not
successful, your loss would be limited to $100.00.
Pending definite advice from Mr. Stefansson as to whether

he wishes to grant you the privilege of an option on ten
shares, we are making a suitable entry in our books here
reserving the shares for you. I would suggest that, in
fairness to Mr. Stefansson and the Company's interests,
your option on these shares if granted should be treated
as strictly confidential, as it would not be in the best
interests of the company to make a practice of granting
such options.
I hope that you, Maurer and Knight are all well,
and that, if you have not departed by the time this letter
reaches Nome, you will be leaving almost immediately afterwards and be on your way towards the goal of your ambitions.
Mrs. Taylor joins me in sending the very best of
good wishes to you and your party, and we look forward to
welcoming you back in Vancouver within the next two years.
Yours sincerely.
