Dear Mr. Crawford:
I have recently received a telegram from Mr. Stefansson
in which he asks me to get and send to you three or four books
about collecting and identifying birds and animals on the northeast coast of Siberia. I enclose herewith two Reports from the
Bulletin of the American Museum of Natural History - one on birds
in northeastern Siberia and one on mammals. I think both of
these are very good.
These reports seem to be about the only material available on the birds and animals of that region, about which there
has been very little written. Of course, there are many stray
references in books of travel, but for a very little information
you would have to take along a large number of bulky books.
I have talked with several people at the Museum of
Natural History, who say that these reports are the best things
that have been written on the subject and that there is probably
nothing else that I could send you that would be very useful to you.
I hope these will prove to serve your purpose.
Very truly,
^
Olive Rathbun
