In the name of GOD Amen. This second day
of April A.D. 1779 I Eleazar Wheelock D.D. President of
Dartmouth College on the east side of Connecticut river in
the County of Grafton formerly supposed to be in, and now claimed
by the State of New Hampshire, being infirm in body and ap-
prehensive that the time of my departure draws nigh, and
that I am thereby admonished and called of God, to set my house
in order, and dispose of my interests suitably thereto now while
I enjoy health of body sufficient for it and God is also graciously con-
-tinuing to me a sound and disposing mind and memory for
which favors I desire to bless his holy name, and after supplication
and prayer to the father of lights and source of all divine influence
that I may be directed and disposed to exercise impartial justice
towards all concerned, I do make and ordain this to be my last will
and testament in the manner following that is to say, in the
first place and above all I do cheerfully and solemnly commit
my soul to the disposal of God who gave it, trusting in the merits
of my Redeemer alone for that pardon and life eternal which he
has purchased for perishing sinners by his ever precious blood and
my body I commit to the earth to be buried in a decent manner
at the discretion of my Executor hereafter named in confidence and
shall all receive the same by the power of GOD at the last day~
And as to that worldly estate with which God has blessed
me in this world I do give and dispose of the same in the
manner following~
Imprimis. To Mrs. mary my loving wife I give the use and im-
-provements of such apart of my dwelling house and barn
and other buildings as she shall find occasion for, for her use
and comfort in life~ and as much of my household stuff excepting
what shall be hereafter named in this will, and as many cows
and swine as she shall judge she shall have occasion to use
for her own comfort, and if she chose it, that they be set
of to her, and be under her control direction and disposal as her
own~ I also give unto her a decent and comfortable maitenance
with provision of all kinds needful for her in health and sickness
and to be provided at the expense of my son John; a compensation
for which, to be hereafter mentioned in this will~
Item. To my loving and afflicted son Ralph or Rodulphus Wheelock
who has been, by the holy hand of God upon him rendered useless a
great part of his life, and is rendered to such a state that there is
little or no prospect he will ever be able to get into any business
which he may depend upon for his support I give fifty
 pounds
pounds LMyper Annum for his support so long as he shall live and
be incapable of performing business for his own subsistence and
this to be paid him in boarding or in whatsoever shall be necessary
for his support and comfort by either of my heirs which he
shall choose to take the care of him and who shall consent to
perform this service for him and this to be paid by means here-
after named~ And whereas the public calamities of the pre-
sent day by which all the resources for the supports of this
School have been cutt of and suspended have rendered it
necessary and no other way appearing to pay the debts of said school
and supports such a number as I then had and 'til now have on charity
and preserve the reputation of their School and save it from sinking
but by the disposal of my patrimony and other private property
which I left in Connecticut, and which I have disposed of for

improved at the discretion and by the direction of the honorable
corporation towards the support of the President, or a Professor
as they shall judge most necessary or convenient~ And this I-

land adjoining and running easterly, and as shall be most con -
-venient for him, and not incommode any purposes designed
