Dear Sir
Mc luer that you enjoy health and feel very sorry
for the unhappy misunderstanding, which has oc-
casioned me a good deal of trouble and likely will
yet more. The return I had from you by
Captain Wright was that the money would
be ready by the time that the bond would
be out. I inquired of my Son last
fall on his return whether you had said any
thing to him of Smiths bond — he told me
he understood by your talk that it would
likely be ready by the time, and have never
had one word to the contrary, on which
I borrowed the money to serve the present
exigence, for a few days and sent Mr.
Mcluer away directly for it — and the
disappointment is very great — I shall
try to borrow it but have little hopes — unless
I send above 100 miles for it — I hope
you will be able to get it Soon and where
you have got it — please to convey it if you
can to Mr. Williams of Springfield
or to Mr. Ralph Pomeroy of hartford
to be conveyed to me — By all I
can hear of Nandos conduct he has
all his right to forfeit Freedom, and it is not able
able he should be suffered to spend
his time as I hear he has — [illegible: lest] he
becomes a Bill of Charge — if your
father will give up his right to him
and send him to me I will give Nando
20 acres of Land and he shall enjoy
his freedom under any inspection, so
long as he shall behave himself well
and I will free the Heirs of any charge
of him — and if your father likes
this proposal I desire he would send
him to me as soon as
he pleases - and I will also take Hagar
for life if the heirs will be at their proposition
of the Expense of conveying her here, and will pay me 3 pence
Lawful money per week as long as she lives — or if
either of them will take her on the same terms
I will be my part towards her support with
them — I believe the Situation here would
be a very agreeable to Nando, as it is to my
negroes who have agreeable company enough
and live well — I have a great variety of
business, I can employ Nando in for which he
shall have a full reward, if he dont incline
to go onto a farm of his own — but he must
expect to be under the government of the Laws
of Christ, and this Province and not live lawful
as he pleases — and I had rather have both
of them together than either alone
as I think God has been displeasd with
the family and I think we should do well to
consider whether the powers of his providence
have not seek a Voice in them in suffering Nando
to do as he has done to his wife — I apprehend we
have suffered sin and a great sin upon him, and
that without repentance and returning to his duty
there is no hope of Salvation for his soul and
If your Father sees fit to comply with this I
will give him 40/ Lawful money for Nando
and if he and the rest see fit to comply with my
proposal of taking Hagar — I will provide means to
get his here provided they will also give good
security for the pay — please to advise me
what they will do as soon as you can —
Dr. Gales order is not yet come to hand and
and I am sorry it is not yet paid, may be so
good as to stop it coming — If you can make
sale of all Mrs Wheelocks Lands in Shelford
Derby and she will be glad to have you do it —
and dont forget that I have risked my Character
and involved myself in trouble and perplexity
for the money of which I am lately
disappointed — we are all well as usual
and quite well contented — my affairs here wear an
aggreeable affect — I wish you prosperity
in the business God calls you to — give love
from my whole kin side to your Parents andetc.
and accept much yourself from
Eleazar Wheelock
