[Revd | Rev.]RevdRev. [& | and]&and [Honrd | Honoured]HonrdHonoured Sir — — — — —
The [Cauſe | cause]Cauſecause which
moves me to [addreſs | address]addreſsaddress you with [theſe | these]theſethese lines
is what gives one much Trouble, [& | and]&and Anxiety.
I understand Sir you are apprehensive ([& | and]&and perhaps
not without [reaſon | reason]reaſonreason) that my Circumstances
are such, [perticularly | particularly]perticularlyparticularly respecting my Health,
that I shall not be able to answer the End you
had in veiw when you [receiv'd | received]receiv'dreceived me into the School[org0098.ocp].
and perhaps Sir you may think I [aim'd | aimed]aim'daimed to
deceive you concerning the state of my Health
and Constitution. But I am confident I can
say with a good Conscience that I [endeavourd | endeavoured]endeavourdendeavoured
to tell you the whole Truth, and if I did not it
was [becauſe | because]becauſebecause I was [deceiv'd | deceived]deceiv'ddeceived about myself: for
I [durst | dared]durstdared not neither would it have been for my In‐
terest to have [discembled | dissembled]discembleddissembled, in an Affa[above] iir of so great
importance; for thereby I should have [expoſd | exposed]expoſdexposed myself
to much Blame: I cant but have a grateful
Sense of your many [undeservd | undeserved]undeservdundeserved Favour. [& | and]&and desire
to return you my sincere Thanks for them; especially
for the pains you have taken to instruct me in to the
Nature [& | and]&and importance of this great Affair which I
have [engag'd | engaged]engag'dengaged in. I have [considerd | considered]considerdconsidered much upon what you
have said to me lately respecting my Health [&c | etc.]&cetc. — — — —
and am greatly [concernd | concerned]concerndconcerned to find that my health is very
poor my Constitution so weak that a small thing [over comes | overcomes]over comesovercomes
me: I [ougt | ought]ougtought to have a [Senſe | sense]Senſesense of the frowns of Providence
in denying me that measure of Health which is [necſsary | necessary]necſsarynecessary
for me in order to my being [servisable | serviceable]servisableserviceable in this affar. And
I should be wholly [descourag'd | discouraged]descourag'ddiscouraged if it was not, that the
work is God's and that he can make [uſe | use]uſeuse of me if he
[pleaſes | pleases]pleaſespleases in his Work not withstanding my [weakneſs | weakness]weakneſsweakness
and Inability, for he often makes [uſe | use]uſeuse of the most
Despicable means to [accompliſh | accomplish]accompliſhaccomplish his Designs that
his Power [& | and]&and [Goodneſs | goodness]Goodneſsgoodness may more clearly appear.
But yet I cant be certain it is my duty under my
present Circumstances to devote myself to this Serv‐
ice. And Several things [cauſe | cause]cauſecause me to doubt whether
I can consistent with my Duty to God and [my self | myself]my selfmyself
proceed any futrther in this Affair. To tell you the truth
Sir I am much [descouragd | discouraged]descouragddiscouraged, [& | and]&and Things seem to look with
a dark [aſpect | aspect]aſpectaspect upon me; there [seemes | seems]seemesseems to be [some thing | something]some thingsomething in
the way to my serving God and his [Cauſe | cause]Cauſecause in this Affair.
[M.r | Mr.]M.rMr. Johnson[pers0879.ocp] tells me that the Indians make no allow‐
ance for a Mans not being well, and if he cant go
[thro' | through]thro'through [fier | fire]fierfire and Water, they esteem him as a
poor mean fellow, and if one gets their Disresp‐
ect, and [Illwill | ill will]Illwillill will, he is under no great advantages
to do them Good; and had I never so Strong a Cons‐
titution, were my Hopes of doing Good ever so great,
and could I ever so consistent with right and Jus‐
tice, proceed in this affair I should not [chuſe | choose]chuſechoose to, with‐
out it was [intirely | entirely]intirelyentirely agreeable to your Will, without
you[illegible] thought there was a [proſpect | prospect]proſpectprospect of my answer-
ing your Expectations. For I know it must
[neceſsarily | necessarily]neceſsarilynecessarily give you a great deal of [axc[above] iiety | anxiety]axc[above] iietyanxiety, and
troubles to think you had expended Christs
Money upon me to no good [purpoſe | purpose]purpoſepurpose. Sir I
beg you to act with the Strictest Regard to the
Interest of Christ and the Good of the School[org0098.ocp] whether
it may [pleaſe | please]pleaſeplease me or not, for notwithstanding I
esteem the thing as highly as ever, yet I Shall freely
submit to your Superior Judgment in the Matter.
if I have been to blame in the affair I desire to
be Heartily Sorry for it, and would humbly beg your
[Perdon | pardon]Perdonpardon, and desire your [aſsistance | assistance]aſsistanceassistance both by your pray‐
