My Dear Friend
With all humility [& | and]&and
gratitude of heart let us set up our Ebenezer—
Hitherto [aſsuredly | assuredly]aſsuredlyassuredly the Lord hath helped— The trust
is settled— Be pleased to send an immediate let‐
ter of thanks with Your full approbation of
what hath been [above] donedone and an earnest desire that they
[w.d | would]w.dwould continue to act according to their present
most agreeably concerted plan— But how came
You to draw for so many hundreds this last
Year? And why no account of the [Disbursments | disbursements]Disbursmentsdisbursements.
This must be annually and punctually remitted—
I hope no money is lodged in Traders hands
If so, it must be drawn out expended and accounted for
before any more will be transmitted— All letters must now
be sent to [M.r | Mr.]M.rMr. Robert Keen[pers0301.ocp] Woollen Draper in the Mino‐
ries[place0140.ocp]
— He is so kind as to act as Secretary and Deputy Trea‐
surer at least for One Year— Surely never was there a more
unexceptionable disinterested set of Trustees[org0103.ocp] in the
world— All may well join in saying, What hath God
wrought! I want to know who hath wrote either
against [M.r | Mr.]M.rMr. Whitaker[pers0037.ocp] or [Occum | Occom]OccumOccom[pers0030.ocp]— I hope they have not
wrote against each other— The former is [unpolish'd | unpolished]unpolish'dunpolished [& | and]&and
forward— But as He hath had and will have a set of
Good [Councellors | counselors]Councellorscounselors He will [goe | go]goego through very well— He is
[some what | somewhat]some whatsomewhat [improv'd | improved]improv'dimproved since His arrival— He is certainly
very [indefatigble | indefatigable]indefatigbleindefatigable— But I think the scheme concerted
with [M.r | Mr.]M.rMr. [Eels | Eells]EelsEells[pers0178.ocp] [&c | etc.]&cetc. very iniquitous and exceedingly imprudent—
[Occum | Occom]OccumOccom[pers0030.ocp] still attracts the approbation of all— He really
behaves wiell— Only I wish His continuance in England[place0068.ocp]
may not spoil him for the [wilderneſs | wilderness]wilderneſswildernessKirkland[pers0315.ocp] shines
there [& | and]&and deserves peculiar notice— Is He or [M.r | Mr.]M.rMr. Whitaker[pers0037.ocp] to
be the [Succeſsor | successor]Succeſsorsuccessor nominated in Your Will?— Or would You
refer the Nomination to the Trust[org0103.ocp] and only mention One
to act [till | 'til]till'til [approv'd | approved]approv'dapproved of by them? I believe You will
find Pious Youths without a great Parade of [Claſsical | classical]Claſsicalclassical
[& | and]&and College learning the best [Miſsionaries | missionaries]Miſsionariesmissionaries— God direct
about the [scituation | situation]scituationsituation of the School[org0098.ocp]!— I am all for
Connecticut[place0048.ocp]— There this Institution[org0098.ocp] hath been most
encouraged— There it took its [riſe | rise]riſerise— There it will be most
visible— There most secure— But if such sums are drawn
for Annually [above] as have been drawn for this last Yearas have been drawn for this last Year after the Land Buildings [&c | etc.]&cetc. are paid for
where will be a remaining Fund? In a day or two, God
willing, I shall see General Lyman[pers0344.ocp], and then shall confer
with all [concern'd | concerned]concern'dconcerned more particularly about it— Write me
Your private sentiments [& | and]&and I will take care to improve them—
Excuse great haste— I Having scarce time to subscribe myself
