Reverend and Honoured Sir/
Since my last to the Doctor, through a kind and Indulgent providence, I have enjoyed a good state of health, better than I have for this long time, I am entirely free from those discouragements which I have laboured under in that respect. I am able to follow my studies the little time that is allotted me with a great deal of ease and delight, and find it no hard thing to keep way with my class. If the Doctor thinks best in the Spring, I should take a tour among the Indians in order to get their language, and acquaintance with their customs, it would be a pleasure to me embrace the same. which knowledge or acquaintance perhaps the Doctor may Judge will be more for my advantage and the design than what I am able to get while a freshman at College. I close by asking the continuation of the Doctors prayers for me at the Throne of grace, that I might be filled with the love of God, and love to the Souls of Men––
and so be made serviceable in my Day and Generation in a way which will most redound to Gods glory. And with humble Duty I subscribe myself.
Your Dutiful Pupil and most obedient humble servant Allyn Mather
