We the subscribers committee of the Board — of Correspondents in Connecticut; ... commissioned By the Honourable Society in Scotland for Propagating Christian Knowledge etc. Conformable to Powers conferred on said commissioners ofCorrespondents by said Society & in pursuance of the trust reposed in Us; Do authorize & appoint the Rev. Mr. Samson Occom to go on a mission to the Mohawks Oneidas, Tuscaroras or others of the Six Nations, as also to any other Tribe of Indians to those Parts as the Providence of God may direct Taking the advice of the Honourable Sir William Johnson, when it may be had, To Preach the Gospel of our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ unto Them, & to use his best Pru: :dence & Skill to instruct Them in Christian Knowledge that They may be saved; & to endeavor to prepareThe way for sending missionaries & School masters among Them to instruct them and their Children, & to procure from the several Nations some hopeful Children to be Educated at the Indian Charity School in Lebanon. We also appoint & Send David Fowler a Member of said School as an associate & Companion, with him in said Journey — and they are to Continue their Travels & Labours agreeable to the most hopeful prospects of serving this good design of Christianizing the Heathen as long as the season will permit.
