Although, as a Member of the Mohegan Tribe,
&, for many years, one of their Council, I thought I
had not only a natural & civil Right, but that it was
my Duty, to acquaint my Self with their temporal
Affairs

vinced, that, as there was no abſolute Neceſsity for it,
’twas very imprudent in me, & offenſive to y.e Pub

done, in the Maſon Controversy: (which Conduct
I might, upon due Conſideration, have known, wou’d
not only give public Offence, as above, but nearly Af

weight with me, than Sd Controversy; which —
I ought to have paſsed by in Silence, rather than,
by engaging therein, to hinder my profitting in
y.e Ministry; which I had given my Self wholly to,
&; solemnly engagd to attend upon)
— #For this Im

heartily Sorry, and beg Forgiveneſs of God — of this
honourable Board of Correspondents of whom I aught aſked [illegible] farther advice and of y.e Public.
Determining that I will not, for y.e future, Act in
that Affair, unleſs called thereto & oblig’d by law
