General note

Fairford is located in the southern part of England in the county of Gloucestershire and situated on the River Coln. The name Fairford is derived from the Saxon "Fagrinfordia," which translates into fair, or easy to cross, ford. Fairford was one of the stops on Occom and Whitaker's fundraising trip, but according to a letter from Thomas Dawson to Wheelock, Occom and Whitaker encountered impediments fundraising at the local church, Bourton-on-the-Water. The church had acquired a substantial debt, and the church's minister discouraged Occom and Whitaker's visit.
