Biography

Benjamin Avery was a prominent English minister and doctor who was very involved in Presbyterian and dissenter politics. In 1756, Whitefield enlisted him along with Dennys de Berdt to help Wheelock seek a charter for Moor's Indian Charity School. Although they successfully petitioned Lord Halifax for his support in the British government, the Connecticut Assembly rejected the charter.
