[Rev,d | Rev.]Rev,dRev. [& | and]&and dear [ſir | Sir]ſirSir,
When I [receiv.d | received]receiv.dreceived a Letter, a few Days ago
of [14th | 14th]14th14th [ulto | ultimo]ultoultimo[1769-05-14], from my dear [M,r | Mr.]M,rMr. C. Jeffry Smith[pers0500.ocp], in‐
‐forming me of your [juſt | just]juſtjust complaint for not [haveing | having]haveinghaving
received my Receipt of the Books sent to my School[org0098.ocp]
through his Hands, I was indeed [aſhamed | ashamed]aſhamedashamed [& | and]&and affected
with such a Neglect of mine, [& | and]&and can only plead, what
I am obliged often to plead, as [excuſe | excuse]excuſeexcuse for Neglect, and
that too, in [caſes | cases]caſescases of Importance, viz My Want of
Time for it, ['till | 'til]'till'til it had [slip'd | slipped]slip'dslipped my Mind — The Books
came safe, and a choice Present I [eſteem | esteem]eſteemesteem them — I
have to the [beſt | best]beſtbest of my Ability [diſpoſed | disposed]diſpoſeddisposed of a Number
of them, among the Indians of Several Tribes, [& | and]&and
to such as I judged your Charity would point out —
The [reſt | rest]reſtrest are waiting for such [Occaſions | occasions]Occaſionsoccasions, [& | and]&and they shall,
you may depend upon it, my dear Sir, by God's help,
be faithfully [diſposed | disposed]diſposeddisposed of according to my [Diſcretion | discretion]Diſcretiondiscretion,
for the pious Purposes for which you [deſigned | designed]deſigneddesigned them.
And God grant you may meet Numbers of [thoſe | those]thoſethose
poor Savages, on the [bliſsful | blissful]bliſsfulblissful Shore, by whom you
may hear the Mention of your Charity, as the Means
under God of preparing them for, [& | and]&and bringing them there
In addition to my ordinary Work in the [Miniſtry | ministry]Miniſtryministry,
The care of my School[org0098.ocp], preparing, planning for,
supplying [& | and]&and sending [Miſsionaries | missionaries]Miſsionariesmissionaries, [& | and]&and [School Maſters | schoolmasters]School Maſtersschoolmasters,
into the [Wilderneſs | Wilderness]WilderneſsWilderness, [diſposing | disposing]diſposingdisposing, [& | and]&and directing their
[reſpective | respective]reſpectiverespective Services [&c | etc.]&cetc. God has of his abundant Grace
been [pleaſed | pleased]pleaſedpleased to grant another special [& | and]&and sweet Season
of the Outpouring of a Spirit of Conviction, [& | and]&and
[Converſion | conversion]Converſionconversion upon my people.
 It began [laſt | last]laſtlast October in a Small [Neighbourhood | neighborhood]Neighbourhoodneighborhood,
[firſt | first]firſtfirst occasioned by the Death of a pious Youth
[below] [Rev,d | Rev.]Rev,dRev. [Mr | Mr.]MrMr. [M,cCullock | McCullock]M,cCullockMcCullock[pers0369.ocp][Rev,d | Rev.]Rev,dRev. [Mr | Mr.]MrMr. [M,cCullock | McCullock]M,cCullockMcCullock[pers0369.ocp]

who was hopefully converted in a like [Seaſon | Season]SeaſonSeason of God's,
about [illegible]5 years ago; while he was a Member of my School[org0098.ocp]
this Concern soon spread [thro' | through]thro'through the [Pariſh | parish]Pariſhparish; but has been
[allmoſt | almost]allmoſtalmost wholly [confin'd | confined]confin'dconfined to the youths. Their Terrors in
general have been nothing like so great, as they have been
in several former Seasons of [Awakning | Awakening]AwakningAwakening; [& | and]&and particularly
that about 27 Years ago: yet [appeard | appeared]appeardappeared genuine; [& | and]&and I [truſt | trust]truſttrust
in many [Inſtances | instances]Inſtancesinstances effectual, and the Fruits exceeding
good. And by the Mercy of God, the whole has been con‐
ducted with such Decency [& | and]&and [Diſcretion | discretion]Diſcretiondiscretion, that even the
[Accuſer | accuser]Accuſeraccuser of the Brethren has not been able, that I have
ever heard of, to find so much as a [plauſible | plausible]plauſibleplausible objection
[againſt | against]againſtagainst, either the [illegible][guess (h-dawnd): [whole]][whole]work [itſelf | itself]itſelfitself, or the Subjects, or [In‐

of it — There seems at [preſent | present]preſentpresent to be an Abate‐
‐ment of it, but peace [& | and]&and [oneſs | oneness]oneſsoneness of Heart is yet to a happy
Degree our Character. God grant we may not, as we have
heretofore repeatedly done, under such a Mercy, neglect
our Watch, [& | and]&and indulge to [Sleepineſs | sleepiness]Sleepineſssleepiness, [& | and]&and Security. There are
about 50. in this [Seaſon | Season]SeaſonSeason, who, in a Judgment of rational
Charity, are become Subjects of a Saving Work of God's
Grace. About the same Number were hopefully added to
the Lord in the afore[ſaid | said]ſaidsaidmentioned Season about 5 years
ago: there is of late a [Begining | beginning]Beginingbeginning of it in Several Neigh‐
‐bouring [Pariſhes | parishes]Pariſhesparishes — and it is at [preſent | present]preſentpresent very great in
a Town [call'd | called]call'dcalled Canaan[place0024.ocp] in the [northweſt | northwest]northweſtnorthwest Corner of
this Colony, under the Ministry of the [Revd | Rev.]RevdRev. [Mr | Mr.]MrMr. Farrand[pers0191.ocp],
about 70 or 80 Miles from me,. there is [alſo | also]alſoalso [conſiderable | considerable]conſiderableconsiderable
appearance of it in Middletown[place0135.ocp], about 40 miles from me,

The Work of God among the Indians at [Onoida | Oneida]OnoidaOneida[place0179.ocp] has
been indeed Wonderful. The Town called [Kanawarohare | Kanawalohale]KanawarohareKanawalohale[place0114.ocp]

a [Chh. | church]Chh.church has been lately gathered there, the Number

prevented joining with them at that Time, but
expected to have the opportunity very soon — of this
Number were many, if not [moſt | most]moſtmost of their [wiſe | wise]wiſewise
men (as they call their [Councellors | Counselors]CouncellorsCounselors)
In this affair there has been from [firſt | first]firſtfirst ['till | 'til]'till'til
now, great opposition from Earth [& | and]&and Hell—
Frequent Reflections between the Tribes [themſelves | themselves]themſelvesthemselves
[& | and]&and between them [& | and]&and the [Engliſh | English]EngliſhEnglish — The bad con‐
