New England & parts Adjacent 25.th July 1764—
Board of Correspondents, in the Colony of Connecticut by a Commiſsion
of the Society in Scotland for propogating Christian Knowledge, was
laid before the Commiſsioners,, signifying therein their desire, that they
would release M.r Sampson Occum from his engagements to them, that he
might be employed on another Miſsion,, as also to aſsist him in discharging
his Debts — The Board taking the same into consideration came to the
following resolution viz.t That it is their mind, that the said Occum
be discharged from his Obligations to remain any longer at Mohegan &
Nihantic, provided the Correspondents aforesaid will employ him
as Miſsionary among the Indians at the Westward, they to acquaint
this Board from time to time of his proceedings, whilst he is in the pay
of this Society, and that his allowance of £30 — p ann be
continued till the expiration of this year, which will be 23.d Feb.y next —
ſaid M.r Occum into their pay, advanced a Sum of money equal, (as was
represented) to what he then owed, that he might attend the Buſineſs
of his Miſsion to greater Advantage, & as he now goes into
are of Opinion, that it can't be expected, they should do any further,
than to continue his Salary to the end of the year as aforesaid —
