Formal handwriting is clear and legible. The handwriting is the same as on 765566.1, 767115.1, 767351.1, 767552, 767559, 767562.2, 767630.2, 767660.2, and possibly 767231 and 767251. Large single sheet is in good condition, with light creasing, staining and wear. The edges appear to have been trimmed. Brown. The signature, repeated after the postscript, is abbreviated.

The Occom Circle Project is a digital edition of letters from and to Samson Occom (1727-1792), with other of his works. The documents in question are all housed in Dartmouth College's Rauner Special Collections Library. Occom was a Mohegan Indian, intertribal leader, public intellectual, and the most important Indian writer in North America in the 18th century.

I now acquaint you that Hezekiah Calvin has been some time among y.e the Indians in this place, and does not Design to return to you any more, but is going to Newport to get a Paſsage passage to Philadelphia. — Has also, given Y.r your School a bad Charracter character .— that you use y.e the Indians very hard in keeping of them to work, & and not allowing them a proper Privelidge privilege in y.e the School, — that you have took from him his Silver Watch, & and Shoe­buckels shoe buckles with other things which his Father gave him, — that there is large quantity's quantities of Rice, Coffe coffee , Flower flour & and Sugars sent from y.e the corporation in Scot­land to support y.e the Indians in your School, which you Sell, together with y.e the Cloth's clothes which are sent, & and Diot diet , & and Cloath clothe them with That that's mean. — That y.e the best Cloth's clothes he has his Father gave him. — That Mary Secutor, & and Sarah Simon has been kept on close to work, as if they were your Slaves, & and have had no privelidge privilege in y.e the School † nor one Copper al­low'd allowed ym them for their Labour. — That Mary ask'd asked for a small peice piece of Cloth to make a p.r pair of Slippers, which you wou'd would not allow her, — twas it was to too good for Indians &.c. etc. . — That Jeams James Simon is to be Bound to a Farmer. — That you wont give no more of y.e the Indians more learning than to Read, & and Write — 'twill it will make them Impudent; for which they are all about to leave you. — So y.t that ye the Indians are ready to conclude, that their Fellow-Indians will never receive any great Bene­fit of y.e the Large sums of Money contributed by good People, to promote so good a Cause. †Since last Fall,
