Handwriting is formal and mostly clear if somewhat small and slanting. Single sheet is in fair condition, with moderate-to-heavy creasing, staining and wear. Brown-black ink is faded. It is uncertain as to whether or not Hubbard is referring to the same person when he mentions the Oneida Sachem and Sachem Thomas.

The Occom Circle Project is a digital edition of letters from and to Samson Occom (1727-1792), with other of his works. The documents in question are all housed in Dartmouth College's Rauner Special Collections Library. Occom was a Mohegan Indian, intertribal leader, public intellectual, and the most important Indian writer in North America in the 18th century.

Thomas and Aaron, to N. New London, and came back at Night and Lodged with Sachem Benjn Benjamin , and I have been with him to Sachem Benjns Benjamin s and to Know if there was any truth in it, or not, and the Sachem, &slong;aid said he Did not No know of any Such thing of him Nor Sachem Thomas neither, But Aaron was &slong;o so drunk, he could not get thier there &c etc.
