Handwriting is somewhat informal, with some additions and deletions. Black ink is bold and bleeds through the paper. Medium-sized single sheet is in good condition, with light creasing, staining and wear. Given the informal hand, and the lack of both an address and seal, this document appears to be a copy or draft.

The Occom Circle Project is a digital edition of letters from and to Samson Occom (1727-1792), with other of his works. The documents in question are all housed in Dartmouth College's Rauner Special Collections Library. Occom was a Mohegan Indian, intertribal leader, public intellectual, and the most important Indian writer in North America in the 18th century.

I find he is a great Friend indeed both to your Spiritual and Temporal Intereſt interest . and he has good Abilities, is Steady, prudent and Judicious. and appears to be endowed with great Honeſty honesty and Integrity. And if God Spares his Life it Looks likely that he may be an Inſtru­­ment instru­ment of much good in the world, especially to his own Nation. his Brother John also pleaſes pleases me very much. & and I have a great Deſire desire y.t that they Should both tarry in my School, 'till until they are accompliſhed accomplished with a good Degree of Learn­­ing. So as to be able to feed you with Knowledge and underſtanding understanding . and I should be glad if you would shew show your minds and give your Advices in this matter, in council. for that would make them more eaſie easy , as I find that Toby is not willing to do any thing anything to diſoblige disoblige his Nation, for whom he seems diſposed disposed to do every thing everything in his Power.
