Letter Wheelock writes that Samuel William Johnson is on his way to England with a document certifying that Occom intends to stay out of the Mason case. He also updates Whitaker on the progress of various missions and relates that David McClure has brought a Mohawk boy to attend the charity school. Informal handwriting is not Wheelock’s. It is small, loose and occasionally difficult to decipher. Large sheet folded in half to make four pages is in good condition, with light-to-moderate creasing, staining and wear. The signature is not Wheelock's. It is abbreviated. This document appears to be a copy. In the third paragraph of one recto, it is uncertain to whom Wheelock refers when he mentions "Mr. P–m," though it is possibly Ebenezer Pemberton. In the second line of two recto, it is uncertain to which organization Wheelock refers when he mentions "...the Society on which he depends..." although it is possibly the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel in Foreign Parts.

The Occom Circle Project is a digital edition of letters from and to Samson Occom (1727-1792), with other of his works. The documents in question are all housed in Dartmouth College's Rauner Special Collections Library. Occom was a Mohegan Indian, intertribal leader, public intellectual, and the most important Indian writer in North America in the 18th century.

D.r Dr. John&slong;on Johnson is no doubt able to &slong;erve serve this De&slong;ign design much. you will &slong;ee see I have recommended him to M.r Mr. Keen & and the&slong;e these Gentn gentlemen who a&slong;soiciate associate w.h with him — The D.r Dr. knew not that I have wrote a Worod word of him, & and I lately had a hint that &slong;ome some end.rs endeavors were y u&slong;d used to preje­duce prejudice his Mind against me. I intended to have &slong;een seen him and be&slong;pok bespoke his freind&slong;hip friendship , but Providence forbid it. I hope you will be able to treat him a others I lately have a very catholic & and friendly Letter from his Father

I was inturepted interrupted in the &slong;entence sentence I began to write by the coming of McClure McClure w.h with another Mohawk Lad for this school, & and after reading Letters for two Hours, am now &slong;it set down to give you Sketch, w.h which is the most I can do at pre&slong;ent present . M.r Mr. Kirtland Kirkland ’s Health is much impair’d impaired , & and is exercisd exercised w.h with a grevious grievous Pain in his Breast — I fear the Con&slong;equince consequence — has built him a comfortable Hou&slong;e house . the School con&slong;ists consists of 40 or upwards — many make good proficency proficiency — David is comfortably &slong;ettled settled for the pre&slong;ent present . has Jo&slong;.
