The Occom Circle Project is a digital edition of letters from and to Samson Occom (1727-1792), with other of his works. The documents in question are all housed in Dartmouth College's Rauner Special Collections Library. Occom was a Mohegan Indian, intertribal leader, public intellectual, and the most important Indian writer in North America in the 18th century.

To Examine M.r Mr. Titus Smith and M.r Mr. Theo.s Theophilus Chamberlain in order to their being Authorised, & and Sent forth as Mi&slong;sionaries missionaries to the Indians viz. on March 1st 1st. 1765. In Ca&slong;e case M.r Mr. Chamberlain be approved, then to agree upon a proper Application to be made in his Behalf to the Pre&slong;ident President and Corporation of Yale College for Liberty to Send him, and he not fail of his Degree at the proper Sea&slong;on season on that account to Examine the Indian Boys in the School & and Judge how Many are Qualified for School Ma&slong;ters schoolmasters , and of the Expediency of their going next Spring — and under Whose Conduct. to Appoint a day for the Ordination of the Mi&slong;sionaries missionaries , and determine whether it Shall not be ob&slong;erved observed as a day of fa&slong;ting fasting and Prayer by all that Attend upon it. to Con&slong;ider consider Whither whether it be not expedient to Send, a Licence to preach, to M.r Mr. Kirtland now among the Six Nations.
