Formal handwriting is small and occasionally difficult to decipher. Large sheet folded in half to make four pages is in good condition, with light staining, creasing and wear. Brown ink is faded. Although it is not entirely certain to whom the writers refer when they mention "your Son," it is likely Rodulphus Wheelock. It is uncertain what the writers mean by "9.r," and so it has been left unmodified in the modernized transcription; however, it is possibly an abbreviation for September.

The Occom Circle Project is a digital edition of letters from and to Samson Occom (1727-1792), with other of his works. The documents in question are all housed in Dartmouth College's Rauner Special Collections Library. Occom was a Mohegan Indian, intertribal leader, public intellectual, and the most important Indian writer in North America in the 18th century.

Y.r your Letters to M.r Mr. Peck & and me give us singular satisfaction in relation to M.r Mr. Kirtland, Woolley & and Sir Williams Letters—There seems to be a desire among the Indians of ye the numerous Tribes of flocking into Christ visible kingdom as a Cloud & and as Doves to their windows—

In ye the mean time meantime M.r Mr. Peck & and I are afraid of formal Episcopal Concessions; for which reason, & and because so visible a preference of ye the Boston Society to Yours; Is given in the Letter to Governour Bernard: We take no copy of that, nor do we think best to expose it to view. as to ye the other Letters Letters; Copys copies of them are in hand & and will be sent to M.r Mr. Little & and M.r Mr. Sherbourne, To friends in England, & and will also be read to Benefactors here.

As to sending M.r Mr. Brainard Brainerd to England with M.r Mr. Occum Occom : might it not be best to consult M.r Mr. Whitefield on it. least it should seem as if he were substituted in his room——a Letter to Mr Mr. Whitefield may be forwarded to S South Carolina if here in 10 days or a fortnight—He writes me of 9.r ye the 17– that he may be back from Georgia & and at Charlestown perhaps all January — He intends here in y.e the Spring— He says new Light is prevalent in North Carolina.
