The Occom Circle Project is a digital edition of letters from and to Samson Occom (1727-1792), with other of his works. The documents in question are all housed in Dartmouth College's Rauner Special Collections Library. Occom was a Mohegan Indian, intertribal leader, public intellectual, and the most important Indian writer in North America in the 18th century.

I a&slong;sure assure you Sir, it is not on my part for want of Affection to you, or Sence sense of the Obligations which the many Te&slong;timonies testimonies of your former Kindne&slong;ses kindnesses have laid me under to you, but my continual want of Lei&slong;ure leisure , and a proper medium of Conveyance to you. — Which I hope your own Thoughts have Suggested in Excu&slong;e excuse for me.

I wi&slong;h wish you could know the whole of my Affairs relative to my School, but they are too long to write. I here inclo&slong;e enclose a Copy of a Com̅i&slong;sion Commission I obtained from the Honle Honourable Society in Scotland — also other copies as you will See.

And I have pur&slong;uant pursuant to the vote & and Determination of the Com̅i&slong;srs Commissioners fitted out M.r Mr. Occom & and David Fowler, who Sat set out on their Long Journey this week, but without money; for their Supply of Which, we have Sent them to M.r Mr. Whilefield Whitefield , who is now at New York, in hopes that by his Influence their Mi&slong;sion mission May be Supported. I have also The Con&slong;idera‐‐tions consider‐ations moving us to Send them now you will See in the inclo‐&slong;ed enclos‐ed Copies. — And I have ordered M.r Mr. Occom, with the Advice of Sir William John&slong;on Johnson to procure 15. or 20.
