The Occom Circle Project is a digital edition of letters from and to Samson Occom (1727-1792), with other of his works. The documents in question are all housed in Dartmouth College's Rauner Special Collections Library. Occom was a Mohegan Indian, intertribal leader, public intellectual, and the most important Indian writer in North America in the 18th century.

The Commttee Committee of Directors of y.e the Society in Scotland for propagating Christian Knowledge in Vertue virtue of the Powers, granted to them by the general meeting of sd said Society; & agreable agreeable to a particular Appointment of the general meeting, held ye the 24th 24th of Novr November last; having taken under their Consideration, the Signal Succe&slong;s success , with which it hath pleased God almighty, to ble&slong;s bless y.e the British Arms, in North America, during the late warr war ; & that Providence thereby presents a favourable Opportunity, & calls upon them to improve it, for enlarging & promoting the Kingdom of Christ, in those dark Places of the Earth, that are full of the Habitations of Cruelty: And it having been represented to them by Mr Mr. Eleazar Wheelock Teacher of an Indian Charity School; at Lebanon in ye the Colony of Connecticutt Connecticut in New-England, that several well disposed Persons there would gladly contribute to further the above Design, conform to a Petition, transmitted to said Society; did by their Commi&slong;sion commission under ye the Common Seal of sd said Society, & signed by sd said Preeses praeses of the Committee of Directors, & Clerk of sd said Society at Edinburgh, the 13th 13th Day of March. Nathl Nathaniel Whitaker Accomptant, ye the Revd Rev. Richard Salter Clerk. Voted That the Secretary write to ye the London Commi&slong;sioners commissioners at Boston in whose employ Mr Mr. Sampson Samson Oacham Occom is at Present, desiring them to allow us to send him on a Mi&slong;sion mission to the western Indians, as soon as he can conveniently go, & also asking the Favour of their Continuing the Annuity they have voted him last February. Voted ye the following Persons to be a Committee, to act under direction ofsd of said Correspondents, Viz Jonathn Jonathan Huntington Esqr Esq. & and ye the Revd Rev. Me&slong;ssrs Messrs.
