Letter Williams gives his opinion of the recent decision by the Boston Commissioners to send Samson Occom on a mission to Susquehanna and to pay him 20 pounds sterling per annum. He notes that, though Occom intends to marry, he has assured Williams this would not interfere with his missionary work. The Occom Circle Project is a digital edition of letters from and to Samson Occom (1727-1792), with other of his works. The documents in question are all housed in Dartmouth College's Rauner Special Collections Library. Occom was a Mohegan Indian, intertribal leader, public intellectual, and the most important Indian writer in North America in the 18th century.

Mr Mr. Pemberton of N New York) their Judination that He ſhould should go on a Miſsion mission to Suſquehana Susquehanna & and officiate as a Catechiſt catechist , & and that They have voted him after the Rate of Twenty pounds Sterng Sterling p per Annum & and are Pleaſed pleased to Deſire desire My opinion Reſpecting respecting Their votes. I take leave to Inform you That Samſon Samson when he was laſt last here intimated his deſire desire to Marry a woman at Mantauk Montauk .
