Persistent Identifier
Rev. and Dear Sir
Its a short and hurried Line, and for everything it refers, saving only what relates to You.
Mr. Occom should have come with me, and so should Mr. Whitaker; If I had hold at that time of one of Mr. Occoms hands your business would be quite done and speedily.—Dr. Conder tells Mr. DeBe[illegible]Mr. Savage etc. That the Episcopal Mission with You have sent an Indian over and have ordained him in Bristol and though he can't speak English, he is designed to ape and undermine Mr. Occom who is expected and much talked of here. But this wont hurt Mr. Occom — If he is not come away pray dont let him stay a moment longer than the time Inoculation takes. Pray let him come to London by Coach privately and unseen, and Let him first see Mr. Whitefield.
Dr. Gifford has £117. now in his hands: On saying to him the last great missions were without [illegible][guess: Fund] and that your own Estate  lay
laid at risk? He replied with Emotion The dear Man shant pay a penny. On my saying Mr. Occom will get a bushel of money he replied Aye that he will.
Mr. Whitefield tells me Mr. Erskine has got in his hands £600. for the Indians.
But I have said more than I Thought should have had time for. I ask your Prayers and am respectfully
Your most humble servant John Smith.
Dr. Gifford says You directed him to keep the money in his hands 'til you Ordered it or else it had been with You — you'll please to give the needful Orders.
